    • AMAZING View and location!

Reviewed by Jason S. from Elkins Park, Pennsylvania on June 12, 2017 for their trip during June 2017

We were looking for a home a short drive (within 20 min)to Lake Placid for the Marathon this June and also enjoy some time with 2 other families, so needed a home that could accommodate 6 adults and 5 kids (ages ranged from 2-12). The photos were exactly the type of place we were hoping for for our stay, and they lived up to them. The owner was very responsive and actually contacted me via phone once we booked the home and also once we arrived, which was great to hear a voice to the property and was very welcoming. First thing when we pulled up was view, it is AMAZING! The home was very clean on arrival and well taken care of. I was surprised by all the kitchen utensils. You have everything you would need from a micro grater to a food processor. There are no cooking spices (salt, pepper, etc) so make sure to pack those or pick some up from the Little Super Market 5 mins down the road. The little marshy area that boarders the property was great to see tadpoles and frogs for the kids, but the best thing was the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge that was about a 500 foot walk and seeing the wolves, coyotes, bald eagles and many other Adirondack wildlife. They ask for a small donation, but well worth it and the staff there were happy to talk about the animals and even show some of them off outside the enclosures. Hearing the howls of the wolves, coyotes and coywolfs(coydogs) near sunset and later in the morning on the deck was an added bonus. The view was also a backdrop of soaring eagles over the Ausable River and at night seeing bats dance around in the dusk. I can't say enough on how much we enjoyed this home and we're looking forward to bring other family members up for another visit in future years.

Put together a last minute hiking/fishing trip with two of my buddies and stayed at this beautiful property. It was so last minute that I emailed the owner Todd at 10 pm the night before about it's availability. He was super cool to work with and called me 45 minutes later and we worked it out. Everything is as advertised super clean and in working order. The house was so awesome that we didn't mind the rainy cold weather the first two days of the trip. Added bonus the wild animal refuge and nature hike within a couple hundred yards of the house, kids would love this! Logistically the house is equipped with all you need to cook with, pots. pans ect.. There are no food items in the house for obvious reasons so bring a bin full of your favorite condiments, food items. spices ect.. so you don;t have to buy it all once up there. Highly recommend this house and would go back in a heartbeat!

We had a party of 12 which is the maximum allowance but it accommodated us all. The view of the Whiteface mountains was amazing, even from inside the home. Owners were very easy to get a hold of and super friendly. It is somewhat secluded, while also being a 5 minute drive from the town of Wilmington which was convenient. One super cool treat that comes with the house is the wildlife refuge that is a 30 second path down from the house. There are rescued wolves and sometimes bears and from the house you can hear them howling. We had a great time!

It is evident the owners take pride in their home, it was sparkling clean, comfortable, beautiful built with so many extras (hot tub, steam shower, sauna, etc) and the perfect recipe for relaxation. Our extended family of 11 spent a week at the Lookout Mountain Chalet in early October and found the house to be extremely accommodating and convenient for all. You can't beat the views of Whiteface through the floor to ceiling windows/deck and the easy 15 minute drive to Lake Placid was the most scenic stretch of highway we encountered throughout the park. We had 5 small children with us, and they all had a great time exploring the property, making s'mores, walking down the private road to the wildlife refuge to see the wolves and other cool animals. You can make it to the Whiteface summit in 20 minutes from the driveway and many other great attractions are nearby. This is a very versatile vacation home that would suit just about any group very well. You can use it as a home base while you explore the greater area all day, returning to have a fire or relax in the hot tub.Or you could lounge around in the house or outside on the deck throughout the day, reading a book and enjoying the spectacular scenery in a nice, quiet atmosphere.

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in the Adirondacks and our stay at this house. The best parts were the deck that has an unobstructed view of Whiteface mountain (we could watch the weather patterns and saw the most gorgeous sunsets from the deck and hot tub) and the very cool howling of the wolves every evening from the wildlife refuge next door (that was so cool/spooky/unexpected and we just loved it, felt like we were truly "away from it all"). Other perks were the open floorpan, wrap around porch/deck and the entire place was very clean. A couple of cons: there was no gas grill and there were no implements for the charcoal grill (brush, shovel for coals); In the downstairs bedrooms there was no furniture except beds (no place to put your clothes except in the closet, not even a chair); there is only a 2 burner stove; and we had 8 guests (the house accommodates) however there were only 7 chairs at both the outdoor table and around the fire pit. We made due but these things seemed like obvious oversights. A big plus: the owners are incredibly nice and super responsive. That makes a big difference and they truly made renting and organizing our trip a pleasure. This house is a great value for the location and the many amenities.

Owner Response: We are so glad you enjoyed the home there are two extra burners in the kitchen right above the microwave cabinet and the reason why we don't have furniture downstairs and so people can put mattresses on the floor we're glad you thought the house was clean and organized also we do not allow gas grills because they're not allowed by our insurance company and the Charcoal grills are cleaned out after each visit when I guest leaves The next time you come give me a call in advance and we will do whatever we can to make your day better as always thank you

Every year we look for places to go with our dogs that we can do great hikes, biking and kayaking. We had the most wonderful time in the Adirondack Mountains hiking the various peaks for hours every day and coming back to one of the best homes as well as views we have ever enjoyed! The location was perfect for everything we wanted to do. Lookout Mountain Chalet was beautiful inside and out. We loved sitting on the deck after a long tiring day soaking in the beautiful view. At night we enjoyed putting our tired bodies in the hot tub under a star filled sky, in addition to listening to the wolves howling in the background! Our children are great cooks and they were all thrilled with the kitchen and all the space it had. Everything from the bedrooms, bathrooms, living spaces, outdoor spaces and location was better than we hoped for!! We will definitely be back sometime in the future...we hated to leave! We have stayed at many homes on VRBO but this one is a must for the active outdoor family or anyone looking for a great place in the mountains!

The cottage was beautiful with a lovely, huge kitchen, equipped for real foodies. Everything was sparkling clean and the instructions were very helpful. The hot tub was a hit and every evening after a hike we soothed our tired muscles in there, followed by drinks out on the deck. Amazing views made it a pleasure to sit out and relax. The location of the cottage was great too: not too far from town (Wilmington), with Lake Placid a 30 min drive, one could get supplies, go kayaking, canoeing. The beach near the house was great. It was an excellent base to use for hiking in the region, simply drive out to trail heads, hike and then drive back. Wish we could have stayed longer.Would recommend most highly.

Where do I even begin? My family and I had "booked" this vacation home originally for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately after sending money via Western Union and not hearing back from the "owner" I got concerned. It turned out that we were scammed and had sent the money to someone other than the owner Todd. Needless to say, Homeaway did not make good on the money and it was lost. If it wasn't for the owner, Todd we would have been out the money and without a vacation. Todd not only took time out to hel[p me contact homeaway but out of the goodness of his heart, invited us to stay at the house. The Thanksgiving dates were booked so he let us pick whatever dates were available. Well, we just returned from our vacation stay at lookout mountain chalet and couldn't even begin to tell you what a wonderful stay it was. The house was incredibly clean and beautiful. The wall of windows provided the most incredible view every morning. The rooms were huge, kitchen was so well equipped that you could cater a meal from soup to nuts for a large party, bathrooms were well done and the hot tub and sauna were the perfect relaxation at the end of our long days. The house was so conveniently located to all of the winter activities. All in all our stay was an incredible one. Todd is a truly wonderful man who not only did this wonderful thing for us but kept in contact with us the whole vacation to ensure that we were enjoying ourselves. What an incredible man, we will always be so grateful to him. Hands down, this was a house we would come back to not only for the incredible house itself but because the owners of this house are just the best people you could ask for. It is so rare these days to find people with such great hearts. Can't wait to go back!

Owner Response: It was our pleasure to help your family. Thanks for the kind words Todd & Kimmy

This is the second year we spent Thanksgiving at Lookout Mt. Chalet with friends. As before, the property was pristine, well appointed, especially the kitchen where we learned from the year before that every type of cooking pot and pan would be available, and all in excellent condition. The weather this year was a bit warmer so we had many more opportunities to explore the path down towards the Ausable and the road into Wilmington. Still the best vacation property we have ever experienced. Great views, comfortable and elegant lodging, and good company, what more could we ask. We are all signed up for 2015.

    • Our Romantic Anniversary Getaway

My husband and I spent 3 nights this past October at the Lookout Mountain Chalet, We were celebrating our 30th wedding Anniversary. To say the least it was a perfect place to go and have a quiet , private time together. We initially had plans to go and have dinner out a couple nights and spend a day in Lake Placid site seeing. Our plans changed when we got to the Chalet. The house is beautiful and very comfy and warm. We decided to just stay and enjoy our time together. We enjoyed the hot tub and view of Whiteface mountain every day and evening. The weather was cold while we were there , so we enjoyed evenings by the fireplace with a glass of wine. Bedrooms are all large and beautiful. We slept in the upstairs master bedroom. Bed was super comfortable. It was perfect for what we wanted. Some time together, private and quiet. The house is absolutely beautiful. Very tastefully decorated. We have already discussed returning sometime again next year. Maybe this time with our family. House is large enough to accommodate our adult children and us. Next time we will definitely use the fire pit in the evenings. We needed a few more days. Having too much time enjoying the house itself. Thank you Todd and Kim !

What a treat to hear the wolves from the nearby wildlife refuge. Todd and Kim are fabulous hosts who want you to be as in love with the home and destination as they are. The kitchen is very well supplied, the indoor and outdoor space are both very comfortable and functional. I have been to Lake Placid many times and stayed at most of the luxury resorts but this the first time I stayed in Wilmington. It is the "hot" destination. It has everything to offer the outdoor lover or if you just want to sit on the deck and look at the mountains you have come to the right place. Plenty to do in this area for young and old alike. It is my version of heaven on earth. A bar 1/2 mile away and a chocolate factory less than a mile in the other direction. All that and you come back to a fantastic house with a world class view. I've been renting vacation homes in the Lake Placid/High Peaks region for many years and this house really stands out. It's a beautiful home with all the amenities. VERY clean and well-maintained! The main living area was a little cramped for nine people, but luckily we had wonderful weather and spent most of our time outside admiring the mountain view. The view is AMAZING. Really, the only bad thing I have to say about the house is the lack of air circulation. It was 60 degrees outside, but 80 degrees inside (85 degrees in the upstairs bedroom where our baby was sleeping)...way too hot despite opening all the bedroom/bathroom windows and running the fans. It's just a shame none of the downstairs windows open.. we would have had an amazing mountain breeze coming through. At any rate, we loved being there and we will definitely be returning next year! We miss that view and campfire, already!

Owner Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful note. Next year from May 15th through Oct 15th we will have 3 AC units in the home to get better air flow for you. I am so glad you loved the home. We created the dining area so that 10 persons can be at the table and enjoy the time the have with each other and made the home very cozy by not having a dining room that would take away from gathering at the kitchen. We kept the house small so we could save on energy cost and not have any space that was not used all the time. I am glad you are returning we have such a great customer base the homes are full all the time. Thank you again and see you next year, Kimmy & Todd

Very responsive ownermanager. Description, pictures, and listing were accurate. Everything is clean. Main living area gets warm in the evening due to sun and most windows not opening. Some instructions were confusing (I.e. steam shower, fireplace), but staff were very nice and helpful in explaining. Not a full size pack n play.

Owner Response: We are so happy you loved the house. We have decided that for next year to add 1 more AC unit to the main living room on all the homes to get the home cooler for the summer months we will have all the AC units on from June 1st through October 1st. My wife and I brought our 3 children up to Whiteface for a week of skiing and to enjoy all there is to offer in the area before Christmas. When we arrived at the cabin the first thing we noticed was the breathtaking view. When we went inside the house everything was immaculate with such attention to detail. The house has the best of everything from appliances to beds to the cabin itself. Within 1 hour of our arrival the owner Todd called to make sure everything was just as we expected. He gave us his cell phone number and explained if we needed anything he would take care of it. The only time I had to call was to see if the cabin was available for an extra 3 days to extend our stay. He not only booked us for 3 extra days he didn’t charge us. My wife and I have stayed at cabins in the Adirondacks for the past 7 years and never have we found such a nice place that is also right next to everything. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone visiting the area of Lake Placid and Whiteface.

The drive was pleasant enough, very easy to get to, beautiful scenery the whole way. Nature has this amazing ability to humble you. When we pulled up I was in awe. The views are breathtaking, the kitchen (my favorite part! lol) was fully stocked, i mean, it really had everything! I am so grateful to Todd and Kim for ensuring that the trip was perfect, the attention & care for details is what really pulls the heartstrings. There is even this cute family owned grocery stores not too far from the house that has everything, also you have to be sure to go and find yourself some maple syrup!! It is so yummy. Even with all of the exciting attractions in the area, I really didnt want to leave the house. Between relaxing in the hot tub staring up at the midnight stars, curling up by the fireplace on a cold night, I just felt right at home. Reviewed by Kathy from Long Valley NJ on August 26, 2012 for their trip during August 2012

Todd and Kim: Unfortunately I did not have a very good week at LMC. The house is advertised as handicapped accessible with limitations. I use a wheelchair but can transfer and walk a step or two holding onto a walker. My husband, who pulls me in my wheelchair up stairs when necessary, and I knew there was no ramp as advertised but the stone walkway, incline and sandy conditions leading from the parking area to the steps created such a barrier it was difficult for my husband to move me smoothly in the wheelchair. The nailed down doormat at the front door entrance created another barrier in getting me and the wheelchair over the threshold. Once in the house the main level bedroom which we used has a mattress too high for me to get onto without help. The main level bathroom is very tight in trying to maneuver a wheelchair to the toilet and shower. Once I brought my wheelchair up to the shower door, it was impossible for me to open the shower door, step into the shower, move the wheelchair out of the way and close the shower door. You were responsive enough to install a grab bar in the stall, which I did not even use because my husband had to stand in the stall, hold my walker until I sat down, get out of the stall, remove my wheelchair, close the shower door and wait until I finished my shower to help me out again. I would strongly urge you to either remove the "handicapped accessible with limitations" notation or mention on your website what the limitations are so guests like me can make an informed decision about visiting. Thank you.

There was something for everyone either collectively or on your own, sitting under a blanket of stars at night and hiking during the day. This was my first trip to the area and boy was I lucky to find this place. First, you can tell the owner takes great pride in the home given the way it was built - top notch materials and construction. Also, the decor inside is that of an ultra-modern home with every amenity one could want. My trip revolved around the Lake Placid Iron Man race and I was most concerned with having somewhere to come back to, relax, and get a good night's sleep after watching the competition. This place delivered. Quiet comfort, like being at home - except at my home I don't have the spectacular views outside every window! I can't wait to go back and will not even consider staying somewhere else.

Beautiful, clean home with amazing wall of windows to outstanding view of Whiteface and surrounding mountains. First class amenities, comfy king sized beds, great kitchen, linens provided (excellent!), luxurious porch! First class vacation house! Doubt you can get any closer to Whiteface and it's activities, close to Lake Placid, adorable town of Wilmington, terrific to have use of bikes, kayaks and a canoe. Fun frog pond on property, wildlife aplenty, something for everyone!

I stayed for a few nights with friends at the Lookout Mountain Chalet in March 2012. This is a sweet rental property, and it is indeed located just minutes from Whiteface. We were a small group, but the four bedrooms and three bathrooms can easily accommodate ten people. The bedrooms are nicely furnished and the king bed in my room was very comfortable. I think each bedroom has a television. The bathrooms are nicely tiled with quality fixtures. The downstairs bathroom has a jacuzzi/steam bath/15-head shower. The kitchen is has large granite countertops with an extended table top and ten stools, so there is plenty of room for all the guests to dine, drink and party together. The adjoining open living area is nicely furnished and has a gas fireplace and a large flat screen television. The kitchen and living area have large windows with amazing views of Whiteface and adjacent mountains. The back of the house if almost entirely windows. The small things, such as wooden coat hangers, quality bathroom and kitchen fixtures, gas fireplace, ample lighting, full-sized washer and dryer, etc., all add up. The owners definitely did not go the cheapy-cheapy route with this property. Also, the house was entirely clean throughout. The large back deck, also facing the mountains, has a table and chairs for eight, along with a few Adirondack chairs and a four-person hot tub. There is a nice fire pit below the deck, and I also noticed a couple of bicycles. The house also has full-sized washer and dryer. One mild evening we sat on the back deck, drinking wine, enjoying the incredible view and listening to the chorus of the early spring frogs, wild turkeys and other Adirondack wildlife. How do you put a price on that?

Ontario School March Break 2012, not a great year for snow in the East, but Whiteface Mtn still holding her own. The Lookout Mountain Chalet is EXCELLENT. 4 minutes from Whiteface. Everything in the Chalet is new and very comfortable. King Beds (comfy) in all 4 bedrooms and TV's as well. That aside, the highlight is probably the open kitchen and family area. The kitchen seating area is massive and allows for full interaction with anyone in the room, whether it be board games on the granite table area, or catching a movie on the TV while doing a little clean up. Hey, did I mention that EVERY window in the Kitchen and Family area faces Whiteface Mountain - what a view! If you are there to ski, you will appreciate the washer and dryer to get your gear clean and dry, as well as the outside wrap around decking to make space to get ski boots on and off. Fire Pit was accessible when we were there and we did a fire with Smores and Hot Dogs - kids loved it and hey what'a know, there are stars in the sky that you don't see from a city. Traveler Tips: Wilmington village (2 minutes) and "The Little Super Market" for coffee or deli sandwiches (and anything else you want, really), Lake Placid: Lisa G's restaurant: family style restaurant - good food and sizable portions (leftovers FoSur); Bobsleigh Experience at Mount Van Hoevenberg where fun and scary intersect with a T-shirt to prove your worth.

The kitchen is FULLY equipped, we brought extra pans etc, but didn't need them. The owners were extremely nice and accommodating. We will definitely book this house again.

This vacation rental was all we could ask for and more! A group of our close friends venture out into the Adirondack region every winter, for some relaxation and fun adventures. This year we came across this vacation rental and could not be more pleased! Not only was this house large with a beautiful kitchen, and outdoor hot-tub we were very impressed with the owner. Several days prior to our vacation we received a call from Todd informing us that the vacation rental was vacant the day prior to our arrival and the day after our original departure and offered us two extra days, Free of charge! Now that never happens! We were able to take advantage of coming a day early, and did not regret it. The proximity to White face Mtn. and Lake Placid were perfect. We enjoyed taking day trips into town, visited the "Wild Center," and took advantage of the several local restaurants. We will most definitely return for another Lake Placid Winter trip!

I felt like I was talking to an "old friend". Few minutes from Whiteface and a fantastic view on the mountain what could a family of skiers ask for more! We loved being neibour to the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge were we!ve seen Wolves, cayote, fox,bob cats and many bird of prey. Some time at night when being in the chalet!s hotntub we could hear their wolfs howl. We intend to be back newt year. The Ouellet -Rainville from Quebec city

Our group stayed at the house for four night during the MLK long weekend and we didn't have a single complaint. The house is wonderful. We drive to Lake Placid area every winter from NYC and this house had everything you can ask for - a roomy, fully stocked kitchen with a big, comfortable island for family dinners, a fireplace, an outside hot tub, a steam shower, four private and comfortable bedrooms. We cooked all dinners and breakfasts and the kitchen had everything you need - plenty of plates, glasses, silverware, cups, and other tools (including a pizza cutter which we used for our delicious home-made pizza night). The view of Whiteface mountain is spectacular. The house is very close to the mountain and downhill skiing and not too far from Lake Placid and all other winter activities (we went cross country skiing and visited the Ski Jumping Complex). Another plus for us was proximity to the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge (walking distance). It was nice to visit them and see the animals they take care of (wolves, bobcats, great horn owls, and others). Everybody in our group enjoyed the stay in this welcoming and comfortable house. I want to go back in the summer just so that I can enjoy a fire pit outside or relaxing on the porch at sunset.

My family and I spent a wonderful week at Lookout Maountain over the holidays. This home has everything you could want, great space for 8-10 people and killer views of Whiteface. If you have the opportunity to stay here take it. You will not be disappointed. We have stayed in several properties in the Lake Placid area and by far this one exceeds all expectations. The kitchen had all the utensils necessary to cook for a large group and the large island made it easy for all of us to sit and enjoy the company. The bedrooms were spacious with very comfy beds! It is clear that the owner has paid a great deal of attention to detail and he was very helpful and responsive to our questions. The property is close to the mountain for the skiers and only about 15 minutes to Lake Placid. We highly recommend a stay at Lookout Maountain Chalet!

This is the perfect vacation house! It is brand new, the finishes are impeccable and it felt like home! We vacationed with another family that has small kids. The purpose of our trip was to visit the North Pole but we also had a great snowy day in Lake Placid. At the house, we enjoyed watching movies, eating and hanging out around the awesome kitchen island, and (of course) roasting marshmallows by the bonfire. All of the rooms are large and it was so great that linens and laundry were included! Oh...did I mention the beautiful views??? Spectacular! We definitely recommend this home to anyone, any age, with or without kids. It was awesome!
